Atefeh Sahaleh, aged 16, hanged from a crane by the judge who convicted her, in a public square, in Neka, Iran, in 2004.
Crime: offences against chastity. To wit: having sexual relations with a married man aged 51, who had repeatedly raped her since the age of 14.
The man was sentenced to 100 lashes.
Under Sharia law, conviction for rape requires witnesses to the offence. Atefeh Sahaleh had no access to legal counsel and her death sentence was upheld by a Supreme Court of conservative mullahs. Haji Rezaii, the judge, having rebuked her for having a 'sharp tongue' during the trial, personally travelled to Tehran to request the Supreme Court to uphold the death sentence.
Ateqeh Sahaleh's mother died when she was five, after which her father became a drug addict. She was brought up by grandparents for whom she kept house and who never spoke to her. She had no education and no other family.
Under Iranian law, the age of sexual consent for females, and the age at which crimes against chastity can be brought, is nine.
Watch the documentary on it. 48 minutes long.
Nice people. However, I'm currently in a Muslim state where none of that goes on.
ReplyDeletethe reason is that they are following the "enlightened" mo'hamed (mo'problems) who raped a nine year old after "marrying" her when she was six.
