Have you noticed?
The news, apparently, is not what the Pope said. It's that the Muslims are furious about it.
How much of his whole speech have you heard on the BBC, for instance? And what's the word count of that against the descriptions of the resulting Muslim outrage?
This is a philosopher, a man with a world audience - with no tanks, no army of suicide bombers, not even a salary - who speaks rarely and after deep thought, weighing very word. He's the only head of state who is not a prisoner of political chicanery and can warn about Islamic terrorism without losing his office.
He is a brave man. Look what happened to his predecessor.
Cheers, Benedict. More people than you will ever know appreciate your words, the majority of them not of your flock.

I don't often agree with the Pope. Indeed, much of the time, I vigorously disagree with him. But this time, I do - he is right; absolutely right. Notice how the "religion of peace" wheels out its offended "victim" status once more?
ReplyDeleteSome bloody religion, it can't handle a bit of criticism.
Yes, I ran a piece on the original comments and he was quoting an emperor of course. Still, they were pretty amazing things for a pope to say, what?
