Horseshit

Alan Johnson MP just said (QT) that when Labour came to office in 1997 one in three children lived in poverty.

Who said, 'You couldn't make it up'?

You bloody could. Johnson just did. One in three, in Britain?

What are these fucking socialists on?

More to the point, why on earth did I turn QT on in the first place?

  1. Since Harold Wilson's wonderfull idea of measuring relative poverty rather than absolute poverty Mr. Johnsons observation is likely correct- and will be for as long as relative poverty is the measure. The poor may have a three bedroom house, a car and foreighn holidays but that is beside the point.

  2. If being poorer than average makes you poor then surely nearly 1/2 the population are permanently poor, by definition almost? So the Tories were doing pretty damned well to break the laws of mathematics and achieve a figure of only 1/3!
