Compare Jesus Christ: 'The poor you will have with you always.'
Oh, and 'Love your neighbour.' Not, 'Give money to your rulers who will save you the bother.'
The *actual* Saviour of the World, as opposed to the Fabian fantasist, Gordon Brown, who only thought he was, did not believe in fairies.
Gordon 'Saviour' Brown, Son of the manse, made 'the elimination of child poverty' a legal obligation on government.
Mwahahaha.
Tip for you, Gordon. Chuck out the economics books which you so bloody obviously cannot understand. Dust off your old dad's Bible. You might learn something.

The really insidious thing is the definition of poverty - this concept of 'relative poverty'. Instead of it being an arbitrary amount, like $1/day, which is the UN measure of absolute poverty, relative poverty is 30% of median income.
ReplyDeleteAh, spot the trick? Median - middle point average. So if someone moves into the country earning £10million a year, the median income - and therefore the poverty threshold - moves. So you can NEVER eliminate relative poverty - it is a mathematical impossibility.
Unless, of course, everyone is being paid the same.
I don't mind looking after the widows, the orphans and the lame. But I'll be damned if we should pay for the bone idle.
